From the Present:

When you’re young, the safest place to be is in your mom or dad’s arms. They are the all-knowing and all-protecting. If you are sick, they are there to make you feel better. If you skin your knee they know just how to clean it and how to apply the bandage just right. “You’re okay,” they tell you. And there is not a shred of doubt that if your mom and dad tell you that you are going to be okay that you have anything to worry about.

From the Past:

Today I was sick bad. I had very bad hives. I “sleeped” in Mom and Dad’s room.
