From the Past:

This weekend we went camping. I made 2 bows and arrow and my friend Ryan came out and so did the Brauns.

From the Present:

Is that all that happened on the camping trip Luke? Wasn’t this about the time you were going through your nudist phase? Why don’t you tell the people reading this blog about your nudist phase?

Well, nudist phase isn’t exactly accurate. But it’s more PC. It was actually more of an Indian phase. You see, when I was making bows and arrows, this was also the time I was running around wearing only a rabbit skin (And though my blond hair and blue eyes would cause one to think otherwise, I am 1/16^th Cherokee).

That didn’t leave a lot of coverage. It left very little coverage. I had to make a tough decision as to what I should cover. Being raised Catholic, I knew that the most important part of my body to cover up was my penis. So I tied the rabbit skin around the front of my body. If the rabbit had been just a little bigger in life, if they had fed him just a bit more lettuce, I would have been able to cover my ass. But alas, the rabbit was small (like my penis at the time).

I believe it was my mom who was looking out the window one day—perhaps admiring a sunset, maybe just gazing up into the trees, content with the day’s work—who was surprised to see her son, mostly naked, running through the neighborhood in a loincloth and bow and arrows draped across his backside.

It was then I was informed that I needed to wear clothes and that just because I had covered up my penis did not mean that it was okay to go out, there were other parts, not as important as the penis of course, but important none-the-less that needed to be covered up.

Despite the parental warning, this was not the last time that Naked-Indian-Luke ran free through the land 15/16^th of my ancestors had taken from 1/16^th of my ancestors. Another day my mom was looking out the window pointing out some pretty birds to my younger brothers and sisters. One of my little brothers pointed in the bushes said “look” to my mom.

There in the bushes, with a bow and arrow aimed at the pretty birds was Naked-Indian-Luke, just trying to put some bird meat on the table. But like 15/16th of my ancestors informed 1/16^th of my ancestors, this was not acceptable behavior and my mom set about civilizing me—an ongoing process that continues today.

And somedays, when I am sitting at my desk pushing papers, I hear a bird and my mind recalls the wild time of rabbit skins, when but for my little covered penis I was free to run naked through the lands of my neighborhood, uninhibited, undressed and free—I remember the naked Indian days of small penis’d summers.
