I hear a thousand voices,
All shouting
And
They are my own.
I’m listening to them in silence as they
Fight to be heard.
If I own these voices, these small wills
Pretending to be entire persons then
Who am I, an audience of one before
The orating multitudes?
Who listens to these voices?
A person, a mind, is a memory of a field of futures
That will never be because.
Because I only ever choose one option, one voice,
Yet somehow all these untaken roads live
In the unopened maps inside me.
